Nighttime Fun at the Mississippi Aquarium!
Ever wonder what it would feel like to sleep aboard an old boat? Curious about how seamen live? Ever thought about sneaking into an aquarium after hours to see what happens when no one’s there? Well, at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, you can do all that!
As a teacher, I like to keep my lessons interesting for the kids I teach. Kids tend to feel a little cooped up in classrooms sometimes and I believe in learning through experience. So, recently, I decided to take my students out on a field trip. However, because of the recession, I was determined to look for group packages or discounts, so as not to burden the children’s parents. That was when I stumbled upon the overnight programs given by the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium.
Amazing Overnight Group Packages at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium
I chose the William M. Black Boat and Breakfast program for my students. We were studying about the early 1900’s and I wanted them to get a “feel” of how it was to live during that time. I let them pick lots on who got to stay in the state rooms and the crew’s quarters. Needless to say, we had a blast. We spent the evening talking about history and telling each other stories about the young Republic. I had also assigned them to prepare short skits on certain historical events and had them perform it out on the deck. We also learned about how a steam boat runs – with the help of the aquarium staff of course.
If you’re not too keen on the steamboat experience, there’s also the Mighty Mississippi Overnight Adventure. This program already include games, activities and even movies.
